Tjustleden, Stage 1 Mörtfors–Getterum–Getgölen

Tjustleden is a hiking trail which meanders throughout the whole of Västervik municipality. The total length of the trail is 203 km, and it is divided up into nine stages. Tjustleden offers the hiker a varied and beautiful terrain through forests and cultivated land.

The first stage is approximately 19 km long and was completed in 1977. It starts just south of Mörtfors, where Tjustleden also joins Ostkustleden (the East Coast Trail). The first stage of the trail passes the ruins of crofters cottages, clearance cairns and the remains of an ancient castle. The area is full of wildlife, and it is not uncommon to catch sight of an elk, raven, osprey or hear a black-throated diver calling out on a summer’s evening. At Stora Ramm and Tällsjön there are several resting areas with rocks to sunbathe on. At the end of the first stage you pass Getterum, a village that has probably been inhabited since the Stone Age – according to the ancient artefacts that have been discovered there.
