Västervik Hospital opened in 1912 due to the great need for hospital beds for the mentally ill. The hospital served as its own society and when it reached its peak there were about 1,400 patients and 900 staff.

The museum is housed in a former ward which has been restored to its original condition. You will receive a guided tour of how the hospital operated when it was in use. There are also photographs available to see from this period. In addition to the regular exhibitions there are several smaller exhibitions organized each year.

Current exhibitions: Hunger Demonstration in Västervik 1917.

Welcome to a different kind of museum!
